First-year Fairmont Prep girls basketball coach Josh Lozano felt a “playoff atmosphere” as the Huskies dueled against Portola in the semifinals of Villa Park’s Winter Shootout.

Thanks to a late 3-pointer by Adyra Rajan, Fairmont Prep relished its biggest victory so far this season.

The sophomore point guard sank a 3-pointer with 39 seconds left to help lift the No. 8 Huskies to a 68-65 victory against the No. 11 Bulldogs in a clash of top Orange County teams.

Rajan finished with 27 points and Sarah Aldeguer added 20 points for Fairmont Prep (6-2). Kara Niho and Kira Watanabe scored 18 and 17 points, respectively, for Portola (6-2).

The Huskies went on to defeat South Torrance 51-35 in the finals to claim their first tournament title of the season.

Fairmont Prep hopes to gain more valuable experience for a potential postseason run in Division 2-AA when it plays in the Chosen-1s Invitational at USC on Dec. 16, Lozano said.

Fairmont Prep will face St. Vincent-St. Mary — the alma mater of LeBron James — at 3 p.m. in the showcase, Lozano said.

All-tournament honors from Villa Park

Here are Orange County’s all-tournament selections from Villa Park’s Winter Shootout: Rajan (MVP), Aldeguer, sophomore Bailey Roczey of Villa Park, Watanabe, senior Isabella Caceres of Cypress and senior Erin Choi of Sunny Hills.

Rajan is averaging 23 points and 4.5 3-pointers.
